Do you want to have a short term experience that is more than Christian
tourism? Whether you are looking for an opportunity for you as an
individual, your church, or youth group, we invite you to consider
visiting us here in Panama. Come alongside long term missionaries and
local pastors to reach out to indigenous children, youth and families.
Don't expect to stay in a nice hotel or be isolated from local
culture. You will be sleeping and eating just like those you have come
to serve. Travel by boat to a remote Wounaan community, share
the gospel with children, or help a local family have a decent place to
live. Read below to see our short term options.
Children's ministry:
The future of Panama Indigenous lays with today's children. Wounaan
children are growing up today with many obstacles and challenges as they
seek to balance their traditional past with a quickly changing world.
Many communities have almost no on-going outreach to those under 15.
Bring a group ready to put on a week long VBS type program for local
children. Help us train Sunday school teachers and church leaders in
how to reach out to the emerging generation.
If your group is up for a challenge, travel with us by boat to a remote
community and you may have the opportunity to help a child understand
the gospel for the first time. These children won't wait to grow up, so
the need is urgent to teach and disciple them now.
Service projects and construction:
YWAM founder Loren Cunningham taught us to come with the "two handed
gospel", in one hand we hold out the Word of God through teaching and
training, and in the other hand we hold out practical help to the needy.
You can be part of holding out that second hand through serving local
Wounaan families.
You could help put in a working bathroom or composting outhouse for a
deserving family, or work with Building Hope to help build a house for a family whose house floods
during rainy season. We can find a project that will fit your groups
abilities and budget.
Youth outreach:
Wounaan young people face challenges that can overwhelm them at times,
many of them travel from their home towns to the city seeking education
and opportunities. They are confronted with financial difficulty,
prejudice, and often have too few examples to follow as they take their
first steps into adulthood.
Part of our vision is to raise up young leaders in Wounaan communities
and churches. As we come alongside local church leaders and encourage
young believers, our influence can go way beyond what we imagine.
Do you have a group of young people ready to connect with Panamanian
youth in their own context, to tell their stories and walk with them on
this journey? Your group can speak into the lives of those who are
making the biggest decisions of their lives, and be part of bringing in a
bright future for the indigenous communitites we serve.
We are also always in need of English/Spanish translators, and Spanish/Wounaan translators.
Please write us at: jucumnuevasculturas@gmail.com to inquire about prices and available dates.
Then come and make a difference in a Wounaan community!
